Synonym dictionaries

Synonym dictionaries facilitate natural language queries and guided analysis.

Prerequisites

You must have the synonym dictionaries for the different languages you wish to import into Digdash.

Supported Formats

Digdash supports the following LibreOffice synonym dictionary formats with the .dat extension.

Importing a synonym dictionary

You can access the synonym dictionary from:

  • The Translation Manager: in the Synonyms tab, click the button en_1737035404648-641.png to the right of one of the languages to display the drop-down menu, then select Synonym Dictionary.

  • A Multi-language Edition box: click the button en_1737035414701-646.png to the right of Synonyms to display the drop-down menu, then select Synonyms dictionary.

The Synonym Dictionary dialog box appears.

If no synonym dictionary is loaded for the selected language, an icon en_synonyms_dictionary_fr_html_38c0f765c05af72.png is displayed to the right of the language, and you are prompted to load one by clicking the Load a dictionary link in the Available synonyms section.
You can also click the button en_1737035580049-585.png and then Load a dictionary.
➡ The File Manager box appears.

Select the synonym dictionary file for the selected language and click OK. (Add the file to the server first if necessary).

The icon to the right of the language turns green, and synonyms are suggested if a word is entered in the search bar.

Whether via the Translation Manager or the Multi-language Edition, the search field is pre-filled with the Displayed Value (if any). 

For a given word, the synonym dictionary displays its synonyms, if any, in several categories.

These numbered and bold categories actually correspond to the different meanings of the word in question. They specify the grammatical type of the synonym followed by the most relevant term in that category.

Each category lists the selectable synonyms.

You can add:

  • one or more synonyms in the displayed list: select them and click the Add button.

Configuring the use of synonym dictionaries

The main Digdash features that can use synonym dictionaries are texte queries and guided analysis (Dashboard creation wizard).

You must ensure that the use of synonym dictionaries is enabled in the Server Settings : 

  1. From the DigDash home page, go to Configuration then Server Settings.
  2. In the left menu, select Dictionaries and languages then Synonym dictionaries.
  3. Check the synonym dictionary usage boxes and click Save.
