16 Hierarchies are listed on the left. They are grouped by type: Continuous/Time Dimension and Discrete/Geographic Dimension.
17 Discrete dimension hierarchies are read-only. They are based on a data model and dimension members, so they can only be modified or created from the data model configuration.

21 **To create a new hierarchy:**

23 1. Click the **+** button above the hierarchy list.

27 1. In the **Role** dropdown list, select the role to which you want to restrict access to the hierarchy, or **None** to share it with all roles, then click **OK**. The field can also be used as a search bar if there are many roles.
28 1. In the **Levels** field, a first level called //Level 0// is defined. Rename this level by clicking the ** ** button on the right and typing the desired name in the **Rename Level** box.
29 1. In the **Level Definition** section, select the hierarchy type **Calculated** or **Explicit**.
