If you want to install a new version of DigDash Enterprise or migrate to a new environment (from a test environment to a production environment, change the server machine, etc.), you can back up and restore the data in your current environment:

* Users, roles and authorisation groups,
* Dashboards,
* Wallets and data models,
* Images, data dictionaries (translations, formats, connections, colour palettes, etc.), etc.
* Data sources: data sources in the Common Datasources directory can be backed up.

There are two ways of backing up/restoring data:

* **Manual**: you need to select the items you want to back up and then generate a zip file that you can then use to restore them to the new environment or version.
See the page [[Manual backup and restore>>doc:.backup_restore_manual.WebHome]] page for more details.
* **Automated**: via the backuptools.jar tool to be run on the server.
See the page [[Automated backup and restore (backuptools)>>doc:.backup_restore_auto.WebHome]] page for more details.

💡 The automatic maintenance service also performs an automatic backup of the environment before cleaning up the files. See the page [[Automatic Maintenance Service>>doc:Digdash.deployment.configuration.advanced_system_guide.Automatic_maintenance.WebHome]] for more details.
It is possible to restore this backup manually.
