Creating a target for a measure

The overall principle of targets is to define zones that associate a colour with a range of values in your measurement.
You can define a growth, decline or stability target for a measurement. These targets can be seen in graphs such as the gauge.

A target is created in the data model, from the Columns tab. To do this:
- Select the measure for which you want to define the target, then in the Targets section, click + (Add...).

➡ The Target Definition box appears.
- In the Target field, enter the name you wish to use for this target.
Click the
button to the right of the field if you want to translate the name into other languages or add a description. - If you wish to define zones with intervals bounded by fixed values, check the Fixed zones box.
- In the Definition section, select the desired Type of target:
- Increasing in the case of an upward target
- Decreasing in the case of a downward target
- Stable for a stable target.
- Define the target zones in the table. There is no limit to the maximum number of zones, the minimum is 2.
- Enter the desired name for the zone.
- For each range boundary (Min and Max), select the Type from the following and enter the Value.
- Fixed : actual value of the measurement
- Percent: percentage value of the target
- Added: value relative to the target
- Measure: the value is that of another measure.
- Select a colour for displaying the zone in the Flow (chart).
- If you wish to translate the zone names into other languages or add a description, select the zone then click the
button at the top right of the table to display the Multi-language edition box. See the page Translating an object name page for more details.
- In the Source section, select the Type:
- The Allocation type allows you to specify the target value (Target field) and manage how the target is distributed across the dimension members.
- Automatic : the objective to be achieved is divided equally between all the members of the dimension (example: the objective defined for your sales is €10 million. This target is divided equally between each of your company's business sectors. If you have 10 sectors of activity, each sector must therefore achieve 10% of the target);
- Manual : manually define the desired distribution (as a percentage) for each dimension of your data model;
- Ignore : the target value is the value initially defined. It is not distributed across the members of the dimension (example: for date type dimensions, the desired target value is the same regardless of the date selected).
- The Measure type allows you to select a measure. The value of this measurement will be your target.
- The Allocation type allows you to specify the target value (Target field) and manage how the target is distributed across the dimension members.
- Click OK.
➡ The target is added to the Targets section.
When configuring a Flow using this data model, an icon
will be displayed after the measurement name in the Measures / Dimensions panel.

If the dimension is added on an axis, you will then be able to select the target:
Example
You want to create an increasing sales target. The target is 300,000. You consider a deviation of 5% to be acceptable and more than 5% to be bad.
- In the Definition section, select Ascending.
- For Zone 0, enter -5 as the maximum limit.
- For Zone 1, enter -5 in the Min field and 0 in the Max field .
- Select the colour for each zone.
- In the Source section, fill in the Target field with the value 300,000.
The value -5% corresponds to 95% of the target. So a value between 285,000 and 300,000 will be considered acceptable and a value below 285,000 will be considered poor. - Click on OK.
